Benefits of e-Passport

According to the sources of the passport department, an e-passport will have 38 types of security features. The information currently in the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) database will be transferred to the e-passport. The passport will be valid for five and 10 years. But if one’s passport expires, he/she has to get an e-passport instead of MRP.

E-passport

As the present passport is in book form, the e-passport will also have the same type of book. However, the two pages containing personal information at the beginning of the passport book at present, will not be there in the e-passport.

There will be a card made of polymer. This card will contain a chip. The chip will store the information of the passport holder. All e-passport information will be stored centrally in the Public Key Directory (PKD).

This international database is managed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). All aviation and land port authorities around the world, including Interpol, can access this database and verify the information.

For the introduction of e-passport, an automatic border control management system will be introduced by setting up e-gates as per the demand at each airport and land port of the country.

Legal advice

Do not give any wrong or false information while receiving the passport. Do not use incorrect or false addresses as these are criminal offenses. If there is any problem related to your passport, contact the passport office immediately. In case of bribery for police verification, inform the passport investigation officer immediately or contact the office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police.

If there is any problem at the passport office, ask the police, Ansar, army, or other officials in charge there. They will tell you what to do or which room to go to.
